Most Smokers Make Multiple Quit Attempts Before They Quit Smoking for Good

he American Lung Association is launching a new smoking cessation campaign, "Quitter in You,' designed to highlight the need to change the way Americans look at quitting. A new survey from the organization found that 6 out of 10 former smokers were not able to successfully quit on their first try and required multiple attempts to quit smoking for good.

This year’s chairperson, S. Epatha Merkerson, joins a long and distinguished list of celebrities and entertainers who have served as Chairpersons of the Christmas Seals Campaign. S. Epatha Merkerson is an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award winner, and has won critical acclaim for her brilliant work in theatre, television and film.

State of the Air 2009

The 10th annual American Lung Association State of the Air report includes a national air quality “report card” that assigns A-F grades to communities across the country. The State of the Air report also ranks cities and counties most affected by the three most widespread types of pollution (ozone—or smog, annual particle pollution, and 24-hour particle pollution levels) and details trends for 900 counties over the past decade.
